WESTERN BUREAU:

Under the theme 'One love, one heart, let's get together to support Hanover Charities', the philanthropic came out in support of the Sugar Cane Ball on Saturday, February 14.

Arriving at the fabulous Round Hill Hotel and Villas, some of the most generous people in western Jamaica came prepared to defy any inkling of an economic crisis, outdo the US$158,000 raised at last year's event and fulfil the creative 'Make a Wish' list.

Although the women donned fabulous gowns to match their men in black ties, this year it wasn't about the clothing.

Katrin Casserly and her magnificent fund-raising team were all about making an enormous difference to the needy in the parish of Hanover.

"You help provide our neighbours with reading and computer skills, offer a soup kitchen for the hungry, supply basics to the disabled and elderly, give health clinics and much more," said the statement from the organising committee.

Charities for consideration include Wasthaven Home for Children, Ministers Fraternal Soup Kitchen and St Mary's Prep School.

Anyone wishing to help Hanover Charities may contact Katrin Casserly at the Round Hill Hotel in Hanover.
