ROSEAU, Dominica (CMC):

A late evening capitulation left the Windward Islands in danger of an innings defeat on the penultimate day of their four-day WICB Regional match against Jamaica yesterday.

Trailing by 147 runs on first innings, after Jamaica's batsmen built a challenging total of 408, the hosts dramatically lost six wickets for 25 runs in quick time, to end the day 109 for six, still 38 runs in arrears with four wickets standings.

The damage was again done by leg-spinner Odean Brown who has so far captured five for 27 to put the Windwards innings in strife at the Windsor Park Stadium.

Cruising along at 73 without loss and seemingly on course to building a solid second-innings total, the Windwards lost Keddy Lesporis leg before wicket to Brown for 28 off 63 balls, to trigger the dramatic slide.

André Fletcher, in his pursuit of a West Indies recall, did little good when he plodded around for eight balls before also being trapped lbw to Brown without scoring, with no addition to the total, and three runs later Kevin James was sent back for six, left stranded by left-arm spinner Nikita Miller for Keith Hibbert to complete the stumping.

Brown then accounted for Charles, whose 38 came from 65 balls and included two fours, Donwell Hector (2), and out-of-favour West Indies all-rounder Darren Sammy (8) to leave Windwards in tatters at 98 for six and with much to do on the final day.

Earlier, Tamar Lambert missed out on a century with 92 while Wavell Hinds carved out a half-century to lift Jamaica from their overnight 264 for three to their eventual total.

Unbeaten on 75 overnight, Lambert fell after adding just 17 and extending his fourth-wicket stand with Hinds to 75.

The left-handed Hinds then propped up the innings, with his 53 spanning 158 minutes off 111 balls and decorated with five fours and a six.

With the Windwards bowlers sticking manfully to their task, Jamaica's batting fell away and only Miller with 31 from 55 balls showed any enterprise down the order.

Off-spinner Shane Shillingford kept the Jamaicans in check, picking up five for 90, while medium pacer Sammy (3-98) and fast bowler Nelon Pascal (2-72) gave good support.
