Soca daggers, too!

The Editor, Sir:

What is more daggerin' than the movements associated with soca music? It seems many people suffer from amnesia. Does any one remember the Dollar Wine? What about the Dragon Dance, and many other slack lyrics that flowed, especially from the mouth of the Mighty Sparrow?

Has anyone paid attention to the 'nasty' lyrics of soca over the years, often played as a backdrop to many advertisements both on radio and television? Does anyone pay attention to the fact that the print media's entertainment sections tell the public where the next bacchanal festival is going to take place?

kiddies soca fetes

What of the kiddies soca fêtes? I pass by them and hear all kinds of slack lyrics and I can only guess as to the 'wining' taking place among half-dressed adults and children frolicking, kicking and daggerin', with shiny sprinkled dust on their sweaty skins. Parents and guardians are proud to see their children in bikinis walking in public places and boarding public transportation.

What is good for the goose is good for the gander. Porn lyrics and rude, explicit behaviour are a part of soca. I beg those who seek to fire torpedoes at deejays to take the mote of their own eyes first, before seeking to address other people's behaviour. What is more lewd than soca?

I am, etc.,
