Speg 'A', Maxfield in final clash
published: Sunday | May 25, 2008

Robert Bailey, Freelance Writer

MAXFIELD PARK and Speg 'A' will contest today's final of the Jamaica Netball Association (JNA)/Supreme Ventures Divisional 'A' League at the National Indoor Sports Complex, starting at 5:30 p.m.

In the curtain-raiser, Jetsetters 'C' and Duhaney Strikers will square off at 3:30 p.m. for the Division 'C' title.

Maxfield Park booked their place in the A league final by defeating Hampshire 'A' 41-34 while Speg 'A' downed Blades United 39-36.

Arlene Findlay, coach of Speg 'A', is optimistic about her team's chances.

"Our girls are pretty confident that we can beat Maxfield Park because we have done this before, earlier in the preliminary round, even though I am expecting a tough game from them," said Findlay. "I think the team that makes the least mistakes is going to win because both sides are evenly matched in many areas," she said.

preparation going well

"Our preparation has been going reasonably well, even though some of the girls are still doing CXC exams at the moment."

Former national Under-16 goalkeeper Sasha-Gaye Lynch is expected to lead the Speg 'A' charge along with the likes of goal shooter Crystal Grant and goal attack Diana Drickett.

Lascelles McIntosh, manager of Maxfield Park, said: "I expect my team to do well in this final because we have earned the right to be here. We have been playing good netball all season and we are hoping to continue this in today's game."

McIntosh said they weren't at their best defensively when they lost to Maxfield earlier in the season; this is one of the areas they are hoping to tighten up on in the final.

"The girls are mentally and physically prepared for this and it is up to them now to go out there and deliver for us," McIntosh said.

Maxfield Park will depend heavily on the likes of goalkeeper and captain Kareene Crawford, goal shooter Kemilla Strachan and goal attack Denise Smith.
