Jetsetters 'A' players and fans celebrate their victory over Windalco in their Jamaica Netball Association/Berger Paints Super Netball League quarter-final match at the Leila Robinson Court on Wednesday. Jetsetters 'A' won 55-54 in overtime.

CINDERELLA TEAM Jet-setters 'A' last week created a stunning upset by defeating one of the 'big four', Windalco, 55-54 in overtime in the Jamaica Netball Association/ Berger Paints Super Netball League quarter-finals at the Leila Robinson Courts.

Coach of Jetsetters 'A' C. Lloyd Walker said his team proved that you should not write off any side in the competition.

"From the competition started we were underdogs, but we got promotion to the Super League because we have a prospective national player," Walker said.

"We analysed that for us to reach the quarter-finals we needed to be between fourth or fifth in the competition and we needed to play hard and beat the weaker teams," he said.

take it in stride

"We are happy to be at this level and we just have to take it in stride," an elated Walker told The Gleaner.

Leading the way for Jetsetters 'A' is national under-21 invitee Crystal Gordon, 17, with a game-high 51 goals from 59 attempts. Antoinette Gray 3-3 and Antoinette Miller 1-3 scored the remaining goals for the team. Diana Millwood netted 29 goals from 38 tries, Petal Smith 15-20 and Stacey Brown 10-15 supported for Windalco.

Windalco's coach, Winston Nevers, said there wasn't much difference between the teams in terms of level of play but "the team that won wanted it more".

There were no suprises in the other games, except that defending champions Jamalco had an early scare against Arnett Gardens. The underdogs stayed with the champs for three quarters to be down only 37-34 going into the final quarter. However, the more experienced Clarendon-based side pulled away, winning 55-42.

good support

Margaret Lawrence led from the front, scoring 30 goals from 36 attempts for Jamalco. She got support from Elaine Davis (19-21) and Nadine Bryan (6-11).

Waulgrovians made light work of Tivoli 'B', winning 59-30. Suzette DeSouza scored a game-high 42 goals from 44 attempts while help came from Simone Forbes (13-15) and Oberon Pitterson (4-6).

Patricia Chambers scored 17 goals from 30 attempts for Tivoli 'B'.

The semi-final pairings are: Jamalco vs Jetsetters 'A' and Tivoli 'A' vs Waulgrovians 'A'. Both matches will be played at the Leila Robinson Courts on Tuesday.
