They came, saw and hoped to conquer. That is the dream of the Guyanese pair of Andrew King and Mark Viera, when they line up on the starting grid for the first leg of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship, which gets under way today at the Dover Raceway, St Ann. "If I did not consider my chances, then I would not be here," said a confident King, who described the local track as a very challenging circuit. His colleague Mark Viera believes that the man they will have to beat is the former champion David Summerbell, who has acquired a sparkling Evolution VIII. "If that is what they believe, then we will see how it goes on Sunday (today)," said a smiling Summerbell. The Jamaican team includes Doug 'Hollywood' Gore, the GTS-class champion, who will be driving a Mitsubishi Evolution V. He will be defending his championship title in what is anticipated to be one of his most challenging championships. There are also Peter 'Bull' Thompson, Peter Rae, Marck Carey and Teddy Burton. More than 70 drivers are expected to compete over the two days of action-filled events. The championship began yesterday. Spectators will be thrilled by the powerful motorcycles. Much is expected from the father and son team of Doug and Mark Malooney, who hail from Barbados.
