Sir Khan to rebound
published: Friday | September 15, 2006

SKYWAY EXPRESS (outside) is hard driven by four-time champion jockey Charles Hussey to win the seventh race over 1400 metres in a driving finish from stable-companion HIDALGO (Dane Nelson) at Caymanas Park on Wednesday. Trained by Wayne DaCosta, SKYWAY EXPRESS won at odds of 5-1. - Ian Allen/Staff Photographer

Both the Pick-9 and Super-6 start anew at Caymanas Park tomorrow, the mushrooming Pick-9 failing to survive Wednesday's racing.

It was caught by three punters, each receiving a cool $1 million. PETITE DIVA and SKYWAY EXPRESS. both at 5-1 in the third and seventh races respectively, provided mild upsets in the Pick-9 races. However, neither was really difficult to spot.

Tomorrow's Pick-9, which offers the guaranteed minimum of $1 million, embraces races two to 10; the Super-6 five to 10. We look at the Super-6 which kicks off with a 3-y-o and up overnight allowance race over 1100 metres to be contested by eight starters.

Good recent form is represented by DIESEL, KYSHA BABY, DANCING SAM and ESTOY LISTO, who will not find the distance too sharp.

In finishing second to the speedy DOUBLE BOW in a fast run round five race on September 2, DANCING SAM had DIESEL (3rd) and KYSHA BABY (4th) less than a length behind that day.

It should be extremely close among the trio of DANCING SAM, DIESEL and KYSHA BABY and if they skip a beat in the closing stages, ESTOY LISTO under champion jockey Brian Harding, could catch them within shades of the wire. The Gary Subratie-trained filly KYSHA BABY should welcome the additional 100 metres of this race and thus gets the vote.

Possibilities

Another competitive looking race is the sixth to be contested by 12 horses over 1400 metres. This race has many possibilities - LUVABLE, VELOCITY, DARLING ANNA, STEAD GOLD, TYRONE SON, MAJESTIC KING and LORD LOUIS - that I would implore punters to approach it with caution. For what it's worth, my idea of the winner is STEAD GOLD, this by virtue of his last three performances when finishing close up to some decent horses. The chestnut gelding beat all barring LADY ISIS over 1500 metres last Saturday and prior to that was only 2 1/2 lengths fourth to NO TEAR over a mile on August 23. VELOCITY and DARLING ANNA are twin dangers.

American-bred BANKER'S BULLION, now administered Lasix for the first time after chasing home COMMANDING LIGHT over 1200 metres on last, gets the nod over the recent winners MYLEGACY and OLE KING COLE in the seventh race over a mile.

SIR KHAN, who finished a good third to BANJUHAR in the Cecil C. Charlton Trophy high claming feature over 1300 on Wednesday, should prove hard to beat given the additional furlong of the eighth race, while the last two races should be won by EXCLUSIVE RUNNER and CHOO CHOO CHOO.
