WESTERN BUREAU:
Andy Fitzroy, president of Rose Hall Developments Limited, died at his home early yesterday morning from a suspected heart attack.
The Hungarian-born Fitzroy, in his 60s, was among those who opened up the Holiday Inn hotel in Montego Bay, St. James, in the 1970s, after it was constructed by late multibillionaire, John Rollins - the founder of Rose Hall Developments Limited - who died about four years ago.
Returned to Jamaica
Following the opening of the Holiday Inn hotel (renamed the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort), Mr. Fitzroy worked there for some years before moving to the United States to live. After Mr. Rollins' death, he returned to Jamaica as the president of Rose Hall Developments Limited.
Details surrounding Mr. Fitzroy's death were not readily available yesterday, but a source close to the organisation told The Gleaner that Mr. Fitzroy woke up early yesterday morning and went to do some work on his computer at an office in his home.
His wife, Moyra, visited him inside the office, greeted him and went elsewhere inside their home. Shortly afterwards, she heard a rumbling.
She went to investigate and found him lying on the floor. It is understood that attempts to resuscitate him proved futile.
Mr. Fitzroy's death has sent shockwaves throughout the entire Rose Hall Developments organisation, including The Ritz-Carlton. He was responsible for several developments to come on stream as well as others currently under way, including The Palmyra Shopping Centre and the Iberostar hotel, which are now under construction at Rose Hall and Lilliput, respectively, in St. James.
