UNITED STATES: Congrats pour in for Clarke's victory
published: Friday | September 15, 2006

CLARKE

NEW YORK, United States (CMC):

While thousands voted for, supported, rallied and endorsed Jamaican-American Councilwoman Yvette Clarke in her Democratic Primary victory Tuesday night for a US Congressional seat in Brooklyn, none were, perhaps, more jubilant than the politicians, who put their full weight behind her.

Many of them were on hand Tuesday night, during the victory celebration at Cafe Omar, in Brooklyn, and did not withhold their delight in what is considered an important victory.

"There's no greater honour to be a member of Congress," said Congressman Anthony Weiner (D-Brooklyn). "Imagine how it's going to be, me being sworn in, standing next to a Caribbean sister.

"This is the first day of what will be, God's willing, a long career for all of us working together to make this community better," he said.
