Left: Another pothole-scarred road, in Patrick City. Right: A motorist prepares to swerve from several potholes, in Patrick City.
WHAT'S NOT WORKING:
The roads in the community of Patrick City, off Washington Boulevard, St. Andrew, have been defaced by potholes.
SYNOPSIS OF THE SITUATION:
The situation in Patrick City is grave. There are potholes a plenty and the residents are peeved. In the first instalment of Tyrone's Watch, some months ago, a trek through St. Mary earned it the title of the undisputed pothole parish. Well, the rocky ride through Patrick City has earned it the moniker, 'Pothole City'.
One resident told our news team that the roads have not received any repair work in almost 30 years.
Apart from Patrick Drive, one of the major thoroughfares in the community that was fixed earlier this year and remains smooth, our news team did not come across another road in the community that is not riddled with potholes.
The state of Padua Avenue is horrific. Grosmond Avenue is horrendous. Driving along Rosewell Avenue is akin to a roller coaster ride minus the thrill. Motorists using Abbernethy Drive do so at their own peril.
WHAT'S THE STATUS?
An officer from the Roads and Works Department at the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC) confessed that the corporation is aware of the terrible state of the roads in the community. He pledged that the roads will receive some attention in September of this year.
WHO'S RESPONSIBLE?
The roads fall under the purview of the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation.
CONCLUSION
This is pathetic! I wonder if the officials responsible for these roads know how it feels to not be able to walk in their communities after it rains, because the potholes create large pools of water that would need a boat to get across. People can be seriously injured by walking along these roads on a bright and sunny day because the craters in the road are so wide and deep. This situation is unacceptable and must be remedied with urgency. Over to you KSAC!
