After scoring 100 per cent in his most troublesome subject, communications task, and getting an overall average of 98.2 per cent, it was not surprising that Santosh Samtani received a government scholarship for his performance.

Santosh was one of four boys from the Mount Alvernia Preparatory School to receive a 2006 scholarship. All four recipients will be attending Cornwall College in September.

"I was extremely happy but when I found out that I had a 98.2 per cent average I expected it (the scholarship)," he said.

The 12-year-old prefect told The Gleaner that he was grateful to his mother and sister who helped him everyday with studying and homework.

"My teachers were very helpful in my getting such good grades in GSAT," he noted.

He explained that his tactical way of studying helped him prepare for the exams.

"Normally, after school I would review all the new topics I learnt and then on the weekends I would reviewed what we did the entire week."

Santosh, who was also on the quiz team that made it to the final of the KFC Quiz Competition, says as he looks forward to high school, he plans to continue maintaining his high standards and good grades.

For the students who will be sitting the exams next year he advised, "keep studying hard and do not to let the pressure get to you."

Santosh, whose favourite subject is mathematics, loves to swim and play table tennis and pool. In the future he plans to become a lawyer or an entrepreneur.
