More wake-up calls needed?
published: Tuesday | July 11, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

WHAT OTHER wake-up calls do we need to address the gruesome behaviour in Jamaica at this present moment? It is becoming more apparent day by day that the criminals are intentionally and unlawfully trying to ruin this beautiful place.

People abroad are not willing to spend their hard-earned cash in a society that seems to have no law and order. Likewise, it is hideous to think that soon those of us abroad might need to wear armoured clothing to feel safe while visiting our loved ones, or just visiting to take in wonderful views of that country, among the upsurge of a bunch of savagely, uncultured, warmongering minorities.

Jamaica, by far, is home to some of the most sensitive, caring, educated individuals who pride themselves on keeping the good name of the country alive. Yet, because of the media's constant need for doing a good job to highlight the escalating crime situations within the country, these people are often overshadowed by these events.

Consideration to reinstate hanging would not be such a bad idea for those who believe that they can take another person's life without mercy. As is said before, this sounds like politics, but it must be said, we need to take back Jamaica from these undeserving culprits.

I am, etc.,
