THE EDITOR, Sir:
REGARDING THE article 'Puzzled about Jamaicans and homosexuality', July 7, 2006, homosexual activity contributes to a culture of death because it thwarts the natural generation of life. Hence, the homosexual problem must be given as much priority as government issues. God never said in the Bible to hate gays. Men and women with homosexual tendencies must be accepted with respect, compassion and sensitivity. Nonetheless, homosexual acts must be considered wrong and intrinsically disordered. They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.
All unnatural means of contraception are evil because they also thwart the natural generation of life. They open up a wide and easy road towards conjugal infidelity and cause a general lowering of morality. Think of all the countless billions of beautiful people that could be living today, but instead will never see the light of day because their one chance for existence was snuffed out by the use of some condom!
The only foolproof and morally legitimate solution to preventing AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases is abstinence. Resorting to condoms to prevent AIDS is like subjecting one's partner to Russian roulette.
Using condoms as a means of preventing AIDS can only lead to sexual promiscuity.
Abstinence is the only 'objective' answer to preventing AIDS. Abstinence can often be a greater sign of one's love for one's spouse. One can only factually conclude that the life of chastity faithfully lived confutes the conventional wisdom of the world.
I am, etc.,
